A Desert Trek - Part 2
Welcome to Part 2 dear readers. I think that's some kind of hedgehog cactus on the bottom right and some kind of palo verde tree on the left.
After hours of trekking through tough territory, a famished Lloyd started eating the plants!
Just kidding. ;) He's breathing aromatic life into a creosote bush. The bush releases a strong odor in rain, or when you breathe on it.
Fish hook cactus on the right:
A valley view:
Teddy bear cholla:
Into the wash for an easier walk:
Towering saguaro [səˈ(g)wärō]:
Saddle Mountain. Kind of looks like a saddle, not a comfortable one, but ...
"Indian Eye", an eye to the sky, on the crest and an ocotillo cactus on the bottom right. The ocotillo seems unique in that its greenness comes from small oval leaves, but even the 'branches' of the bare, dead looking ones sprout red blossoms.
We returned here another day. Lloyd hunkered in sparse shade to paint the mountains while I hiked, scoured the ground for turquoise (no luck), and scribbled. An excellent excursion all around...
