We were told to drive to the end of 3rd Street and park then hike up the valley and take the trail to the left.
We ascended over a rocky path to a ridge line overlooking Durango and the mountains beyond.
The breeze cooled us as we hiked along the ridge sharing the trail with numerous mountain bikers.
We stopped for a short break to eat some trail mix and enjoy the views.
Tomorrow the Leica arrives and we will not have to keep swapping off the Pentax point and shoot camera. -L

The Bandelier National Monument is located in the Frijoles Canyon in northern New Mexico. The above map shows the Main Loop Trail that we hiked today. Passing ceremonial house, cliff dwellings, long houses, and the Tyuonyi Pueblo.

Our Garmin 60Csx GPS and Google Earth now allow us to track our hikes and see the landscape in unique ways.
We spent the day starting with a tour of Georgia O'Keeffe's home about fifteen miles from Ghost Ranch. We were disappointed because we were not allowed to take our camera, sketchbook, or notebook with us during the tour of her home. We do not receommend the tour since it was expensive and did not even tour many of the rooms. We saw much of the house through the windows only. Very disappointing.
That said, Ghost Ranch was great. The landscape tour took us to many of the actual scenes of O'Keeffe's famous paintings. The highlight was our hike along the Box Canyon trail (pictured above). Photos gallery is located here. -L
