Gaspereau Valley Fibres hosted a spinning workshop today with Marilyn Rand, from Lambs Run Studio. Brenda allowed me to spin all day on a Majacraft Alpaca wheel.

It was a joy to work such a wonderful wheel. The skein of 70% Merino wool and 30% silk spun well. This is my second day of spinning ever and I truly enjoy the experience. Thank you Brenda and Marilyn.

Twenty-five drummers showed up for the Djembe (West African Drum) workshop lead by Kadijah meet at the Lunenburg Cultural Center to play West African rhythms. Beginners and experienced players played together for two hours and learned two traditional West African rhythms. After the workshop we met at our house for a drum circle and others arrived with didgeridoo, cajon, bodhran, and other traditional drums. We played together for another four hours. Screenwriting Conference in Santa Fe

santafe-090529-L9990925 We have spent the last six days at Screenwriting Conference in Santa Fe, with over a hundred fellow screenwriters. The six days were filled with lectures, networking, and pitches. Though it is substantially smaller than the Screenwriting Expo in LA, we made many new friends and connected with fellow students from UCLA. The Conference was hosted at the The Lodge at Sante Fe.

santafe-090529-L9990877

The workshops were small and allowed us both to find new inspiration to finish our current screenplays. The instructors are working screenwriters and professors from UCLA and UNC.

santafe-090529-L9990859

The first day started with a Bacci Ball tournament and we lost our first game and won the next two to finish first among the losers. The field shown below was astro-turf and the fast surface added to the challenge and excitement. A fun time was had by all.

santafe-090529-L9990898

During one of the breaks I walked around to take a few photos.

Durango Friends of the Arts

durango-090514-0058 While biking along the Animas River Trail we show a collection of easels with plein air oil paintings. So we had to stop. It was a meeting of the Durango Friends of the Arts and we were invited to stay for the Plein Air presentation.

durango-090514-0060

Jane Mercer and her mentor Karl Brenner gave a short presentation of plein air painting after the regular meeting.

durango-090514-0059

Jane kindly showed me her workshop notebook where she includes photographs, notes, and palette examples with mixing notes.

durango-090514-0057

This was a great idea I will have to incorporate into my next workshop, thank you Jane; -L

Great Experience

santafeworkshopattendees_500x387shkl The workshop was a great experience. I met a lot of great people from all over the world (Australia was the farthest). We all had a good time together and learned how to better use our photographic and digital darkroom tools. I'm sixth from the left in the back row. -L
